In the 1861 Census George and Martha were living at Moor Bottom, and George was described as A manufacturer of fancy cloth. By the time of the 1881 Census They were living in Bath Buildings, Huddersfield, and George was a major employer in the town. According to the Huddersfield Directory and Yearbook for 1873, George had addresses at Canal Bridge Mill, 18 Vance's Buildings, and also at Fitzwilliam Street, and was a Fancy Woollen Manufacturer.
In Kirkheaton Churchyard, there is a memorial stone to (some of) the family; it reads:

Daughters Sarah Ann and Mary Ellen were teachers, and for a time ran their own private school, Greenhead Park High School at 45-7 Trinity Street, Huddersfield. They are listed in both the 1900 and 1909 Huddersfield Post Office Directories.
