Who They Were
Henry and Lucy lost two of their six sons during WW1. Reginald Edward Grimsdell was 2nd Lieut. in the 4th Battalion Royal Fusiliers and fell in Flanders, probably at one of the Battles of the Somme; he is memorialised on the Thiepval Memorial and also on his parents' grave stone. Gerald Lucien was a Captain in the 8th Battalion South Lancashire Regiment, and was awarded the Military Cross. He has a CWGC grave and marker in the same cemetery as his parents, and is also mentioned on their gravestone. Both are also commemmorated on the Bryer War Memorial.
Lucy's will gives her executors as sons Henry John Grimsdell (merchant) and Ernest Hedley Grimsdell (wholesale optician).
