Additional Information
From about 1822 to 1826 the family were living in Kirkheaton, by 1828 they had moved to Dalton. The family composition can be seen in 1841 | 1851 | 1861 Censuses. In 1861, Ann was a widow, living at New Road Side Dalton, and keeping a mangle to make a living. With her was "son" Fred aged 9. It is a bit unlikely that she had a child aged 50, although not impossible. In fact there is something altogether odd going on with this family! In 1843 a son Edward was born in Bowling Green Dalton, and was baptised in 1846 in Kirkheaton, but at his baptism only his mother, Ann, is given as parent, although the vicar did not note that she was a "single woman". When Edward married in 1869, he did not give his father's name and occupation, and it looks like he was illegitimate. BUT, in the 1851 census, there in Dalton are Thomas and Ann living with children Ann and Jane, and Edward, Son, aged 8! I think Edward must in fact be Thomas & Ann's grandson, the son of their unmarried daughter Ann, and they told the enumerator he was their "son" to avoid embarassment! The same could then be true about Fred; he was not Ann's son as she stated on the 1861 census but her grandson.
