Additional Information

In 1843 Edward was born in Bowling Green Dalton, and was baptised in 1846 in Kirkheaton, but at his baptism only his mother, Ann, was given as parent, although the vicar did not note that she was a "single woman". When Edward married in 1869, he did not give his father's name and occupation, and it looks like he was illegitimate. In the 1851 census, he is recorded as the son of Thomas and Ann, his grandparents!
