Arthur Blewert BRYER's Will
written 1879 proved 1886

This is the last will of me Arthur Blewert BRYER of Number 11 Kennington Park Road in the Parish of St Mary Newington in the County of Surrey Esquire but which residence was formerly known as Number 6 Canterbury Row Newington aforesaid. I do hereby revoke and make void all wills codicils and other testamentary dispositions by me at any time heretofore made and I declare this to be my last Will. I desire to be interred in my tomb in the South Metropolitan Cemetery at Lower Norwood Surrey. I give and bequeath unto the several persons hereinafter named the respective legacies or sums hereinafter mentioned that is to say Unto Sarah BRYER the widow of my late cousin William Wyndham BRYER of Cheltenham Veterinary Surgeon deceased the sum of five hundred pounds Unto Wyndham BRYER a son of the said William Wyndham BRYER the sum of five hundred pounds Unto Clement Arthur BRYER another son of the said William Wyndham BRYER the sum of five hundred pounds Unto my cousin William Bryer TALBOT of Cannington Brock Township Canada West the sum of five hundred pounds Unto my cousin Robert TALBOT also of Cannington Brock Township aforesaid the sum of five hundred pounds Unto my cousin Arthur TALBOT of Breck Road Everton near Liverpool a captain in the Merchant Service the sum of five hundred pounds Unto his eldest daughter Florence SMITH the sum of five hundred pounds Unto my cousin Clara Eva Mary TALBOT the daughter of the late Stephen TALBOT upon her attaining the age of twenty one years or marrying under that age the sum of five hundred pounds Unto her brother my cousin Percival TALBOT the sum of five hundred pounds Unto my cousin Mary Ann SABINE widow of the late Reverend John SABINE the sum of three thousand pounds Unto my cousin Gertrude TALBOT of Clara Villa Tor Park Torquay Devon Spinster the sum of three thousand pounds Unto Jeanette SABINE the daughter of the said Mary Ann SABINE the sum of two thousand pounds Unto my cousin Ellen PENDRY the sum of three thousand pounds Unto Henry Wentworth PENDRY grandson of the said William Wyndham BRYER the sum of one hundred pounds Unto William Hamilton PENDRY another of his grandsons the sum of one hundred pounds Unto Charles Clement PENDRY another of his grandsons the sum of one hundred pounds Unto William Tiffin ILIFF of Number 37 Kennington Park Road aforesaid M.D. the sum of one thousand pounds for his own use and benefit Unto Charles HAMMOND of Angel Court Throgmorton Street London Stockbroker if he prove this my will the sum of three hundred pounds for his own use and benefit Unto Edward CHESTER of No. 86 Newington Butts Surrey Gentleman if he prove this my will the sum of three hundred pounds for his own use and benefit Unto Louisa Susanna ILIFF a daughter of the said William Tiffin ILIFF the sum of two hundred pounds Unto Fanny ILIFF another daughter of the said William Tiffin ILIFF the sum of two hundred pounds Unto the Reverend Archibald FOX son of the late Archibald FOX the sum of two hundred pounds Unto Jane Maria PARKER daughter of my friend Dr. William Smithson CORLIS the sum of two hundred pounds Unto Alice Weddell CORLIS another daughter of the said William Smithson CORLIS the sum of two hundred pounds Unto William HENTSCH the Resident Medical Officer of the Royal South London Dispensary the sum of two hundred pounds and if he should happen to die in my lifetime the I give the said sum of two hundred pounds to his son William HENTSCH Unto Frederick James CHESTER of No. 86 Newington Butts the sum of one hundred pounds Unto the said Edward CHESTER in addition to the aforesaid legacy the sum of one hundred pounds for his own use and benefit Unto William BASS of Dukinfield Ashton under Lyne Esquire the sum of one hundred pounds Unto Abram BASS of Burton upon Trent Solicitor the sum of one hundred pounds Unto Mary GISBORNE wife of Walter GISBORNE Esquire the sum of one hundred pounds Unto Frances FOX the widow of Archibald FOX the sum of two hundred pounds Unto Frederick SMEE of the Bank of England the sum of nineteen pounds nineteen shillings. I give and bequeath the following legacies or sums that is to say Unto Emma PLUMRIDGE wife of Charles Walter PLUMRIDGE the sum of two hundred pounds and also twenty pounds for mourning in addition to the bequest hereinafter made in trust for her Unto Arthur Henry DEATH her brother the sum of two hundred pounds Unto my cook ELiza KELLEY the sum of two hundred pounds in addition to the legacies hereinafter bequeathed to or in trust for her Unto my housemaid Jane WHATMAN the sum of two hundred pounds in addition to the legacies hereinafter bequeathed to or in trust for her To each of my servants who shall be living with me at the time of my decease one year's wages and the sum of Twenty pounds for mourning and if the said Eliza KELLEY and Jane WHATMAN shall then respecitely serve me the same to be paid to them respectively in addition to the legacies hereinbefore and hereinafter bequeathed to or in trust for them respectively I give and bequeath the sum of one thousand pounds three pounds per cent consolidated bank annuities unto the said William Tiffin ILIFF Charles HAMMOND and Edward CHESTER and the survivors and survivor of them and the executors and administrators of such survivor or other the trustees or trustee for the time being of this my will (which said William Tiffin ILIFF Charles HAMMOND and Edward CHESTER and the survivors and survivor of them and the executors and administrators of such survivor or other the trustees or trustee for the time being of this my will are hereinafter called and included in the words "my said trustees") Upon trust that they my said trustees shall during the life of the said Emma PLUMRIDGE from my decease pay to her the dividends of the said sum of one thousand pounds three pounds per cent consolidated bank annuities for her own sole and separate use And from and after the decease of the said Emma PLUMRIDGE the I declare and devise that the said sum of one thousand pounds three pounds per cent consolidated bank annuities shall be held by my said trustees as part of my residuary estate and upon the trusts declared of and concerning the same And whereas the said Eliza KELLEY and Jane WHATMAN have been for many years in my service during which time they have conducted themselves in a very proper and becoming manner and have most carefully discharged their duties and attended to my requirements and in recognition and as a token of my appreciation of the long and faithful services rendered by them to me I am anxious that upon my decease they should be sufficiently provided for so as not afterwards to be engaged for their support more particularly as they have spent the best years of their lives in my service and as the extent of my property enables me to give in trust for them the legacies next hereinafter mentioned and still to leave ample provision for my dear relations whom I by this my Will make my residuary legatees I give and bequeath unto my said trustees the sum of five thousand pounds three pounds per cent consolidated bank annuities Upon trust that they my said trustees do and shall during the life of the said Eliza KELLEY from my decease receive and pay to her as and when the same shall accrue due the dividends of the said sum of five thousand pounds three pounds per cent consolidated bank annuities for her own sole and separate use and from and after the decease of the said Eliza KELLEY I declare and direct that the sum of five thousand pounds three pounds per cent consolidated bank annuities shall be held by my said trustees as part of my residuary estate and upon the trusts declared of and concerning the same I give and bequeath unto my said trustees the sum of five thousand pounds three pounds per cent consolidated bank annuities Upon trust that they my said trustees do and shall during the life of the said Jane WHATMAN from my decease receive and pay to her as and when the same shall accrue due the dividends of the said sum of five thousand pounds three pounds per cent consolidated bank annuities for her own sole and separate use and from and after the decease of the said Jane WHATMAN I hereby declare and direct that the sum of five thousand pounds three pounds per cent consolidated bank annuities shall be held by my said trustees as part of my residuary estate and upon the trusts declared of and concerning the same ....

On the 3rd day of April 1886 Probate of this Will was granted to William Tiffin ILIFF and Edward CHESTER the surviving executors.
