Lion Street was a turning off the New Kent Road, close to the Elephant and Castle (see the map below). The buildings shown in this photograph are typical mid-Victorian tenement blocks and were about to be demolished in 1966 when the photograph was taken. John Henry and Emma BRYER lived here with their burgeoning family in 1845 when my great-great-grandfather Walter James was born.
