Where They Lived
Due to the loss of 1851 Census returns for Dalham, it has not been possible to verify that the family was still living in Dalham in 1851. Certainly, in the 1881 census, Phoebe stated that she had been born in Marylebone, which leads me to suspect that she had been very young when they moved to London.
In the 1871 Census, Robert and Mary Ann were living with their daughter Phoebe and her husband and young family in Gresse Street, just off Oxford Street; Mary Ann was described as a Nurse. Mary Ann BISHOP was still alive in 1874, when she was informant of the death of her grandson Albert Ernest. At that time, she gave her address as 40 Upper Rathbone Place Marylebone. By 1881 she was dead, and Robert was living as a widower with Phoebe and her family.
