Additional Information
Edward Rampton of Silchester first married Ann EMMERY of Burfield on 9 Sep 1742 at Sherborne St John. Ann, however, died within 2 years, and was buried not in Silchester but in Burghfield Berkshire on 6 Nov 1744. Perhaps they had returned to Burghfield in the first few years of their marriage to start a family, and that is where she died, or perhaps they lived in Silchester but she wanted to be buried in her family churchyard. I have been unable to find any children from this marriage baptised in either Silchester or Burghfield.
Edward next married Joan ALDRIDGE on 21 Feb 1748 at Silchester. Both bride and groom were said to be of the parish. Edward and Joan had two children recorded in the Silchester baptism register.
Nothing more is known about Mary, she does not feature in either the marriage or the burial registers. At the same time as Edward and Joan were building their family in Silchester, another couple, Richard and Ann also baptised one child, Ann, at Silchester on 6 Feb 1756. It is possible, however, that there was another child, Richard, whose baptism went unrecorded for some reason, as a later Richard (married to Hannah, see below) was described on one of his children's baptisms as being Richard Rampton junior. There is a burial of an Ann Rampton on 21 Dec 1758, but it is not noted whether this was the mother or the child.
