Additional Information

William was a puzzle for a long time, until I came across a probate record for his widow Caroline, as she named John WALSH, her brother (?) as one of the beneficiaries. After that it was a matter of finding WALSH relatives popping up in censuses, and their history fell into place.

In 1861, William (misnamed John by the census enumerator) and Caroline were living in Erskine Street Hulme LAN, with a servant. By 1871 they had moved to Eastbourne SSX and Caroline's mother was living with them, Martha WALSH (born Cousik YKS). William's will was proved in 1842 and registered in Lewes SSX.

In 1881, Caroline was living at 37 Camden Grove Camberwell SRY with the CALLAWAY family. In 1891, she was in Mitcham SRY living with Emma R & Alice WALSH. In 1901, she was still in Mitcham, with John and Caroline WALSH and their daughter Alice. In 1904, when her will was proved, the beneficiaries were named John WALSH and Frederick BUTCHER.
