Additional Information
The Marriage Allegation, dated 28 Sep 1723, allowed for the marriage to take place either at St Peter's Winchester or in Basingstoke. On the Allegation, John was described as "a husbandman" of West Sherborne.
If the John who was the subject of the Marriage Allegation is the same John who was born to George in 1654, he was fairly old at the time of his marriage to Katherine, and would have been 51 when the fifth child was born. Perhaps there was an earlier marriage, but I have been unable so far to trace any other marriage for a John Rampton between 1700 and 1723, other than the marriage of a John Rampton of Tadley to Mary Searle at Basingstoke in 1715, and this couple were baptising babies in Tadley until at least 1731.
Interestingly, a year after Katherine's death, another marriage took place in Monk Sherborne, between a John Rampton and Elizabeth BRISTOW (date 24 Jul 1741). Could this be Katherine's widower remarrying? I have been unable to find any children of this subsequent possible marriage.
