Additional Information
Although the Parish Records relating to John Rampton are all too early to give an indication of John's occupation, it is most probable that he was a Sawyer, or some other worker or dealer in wood, as was his eldest son John. When John was buried in 1724, the Burial Register refers to him as John Rampton Senior.
Little is know about most of the ten children listed above, other than John, the eldest, and Ann, who was probably the wife of Joseph STILLMAN of Pamber. Martha appears to have remained single. I have also been able to discover a little of what happened to James, who moved to Farnham in Surrey.
It is interesting to note that the relatively unusual (for the Rampton family as a whole) name Edward crops up in this family chart in addition to the Monk Sherborne family. Might this be further evidence that John was the Youngest son of Edward and Edith of Monk Sherborne? See Introduction.
