Early RAMPTONs in Lincolnshire
Introduction
All of the records I have found in Lincolnshire relate to the RAMTON spelling. I have identified RAMPTON events in the following Lincolnshire parishes. These parishes are roughly in a north south line reaching almost to the Humber estuary. See the
distribution map of early Ramptons.
Killingholme is a small parish just to the north of Immingham, close to the Humber Estuary; it was the scene of just one Rampton event, the marriage between John RUMTANE and Judith BAXTER in 1626.
Silk Willoughby is a small parish just to the south of Sleaford; it was the scene of just one Rampton event, the burial of Elizabeth RAMTON on 13 Mar 1606.
I have identified one family in Thurlby, with unnamed parents and only one baptism, that of
Bartill RAMTON in 1582; could he have been the father of the Washingborough families?
Washingborough is a small village just south of Lincoln and about 10km north of Thurlby. Here lived
Georgi RAMTON and
Gulielmi (William) RAMTON. Could they be the sons of Bartill RAMTON of Thurlby?
In addition to identified families, another burial took place in Washingborough, that of Thomas RAMPTON on 21 Mar 1637, no spouse or parentage is recorded.
