In 1891, Ernest was living in Ampton Street St Pancras, a visitor; in the same household was George Louis Symondson (age 20, civil servant). In 1901, Ernest was a border in Union Road Upper Holloway Islington, and George was there again, this time with his brother Horace D Symondson.

By 1911, he had married Kate, and they lived in Wood Green Edmonton with 5 children, and Kate's brother Claude William Symondson (born 1863, a dock worker). In 1921, the family was still in Wood Green.
