Additional Information

At the time that Tom and John were baptised, and also when Jesse was buried, the family was living at New Barn Freefolk Manor. In the 1851 Census, there is an additional son, Jefrey, born circa 1849 living with the family. Since I have found no other evidence of this child, I have assumed that the name was actually a mistake for Jesse.

In 1861, George and Sarah were living in Freefolk with Lucy, Thomas, Jane and Frederic [sic]. Presumably Mary Jane and Harriet had moved from home in search of work.

In 1881, I found a widowed Sarah living with children Jane, Frederick, Arthur and Ernest, but I am not sure yet whether they are part of this family. Certainly the age of Sarah ties in, as do the presence of Jane and Frederick (also found in the 1861 census), but Arthur and Ernest would have been born after the latest confirmed child of George and Sarah [I have since found, in the GRO index, that both Arthur's and Ernest's mother had a maiden name of COLLIS, so I believe these are the children of George and Sarah]. When Frederick, Jane and Arthur married in Whitchurch (and when Mary Jane married in Laverstoke) they all gave their father as George, and I have been unable to connect them with another George in the Whitchurch area. This aspect needs further investigation, possibly in the Freefolk PRs.

In 1891, Sarah was still living with unmarried daughter Jane at The Lynch Whitchurch; Sarah was living on her own means and Jane was a Tailoress.
