Who They Were
Henry appears in both Pigot's 1823 Directory for London and in the PO London Directory for 1827 as a Printer, address Bridewell Hospital. Henry was also listed in The London book trades 1775-1800: a preliminary checklist of members as a printer at 10 Bell's Buildings, Fleet Street (in 1799) and at Bridewell Hospital, Bridge Street, Blackfriars (1800-36). His press was registered in 1800.
In 1822, Henry signed an affidavit, together with William SOWARD, identifying his son Henry's will, since Henry the Younger died without leaving a formal will.
Daughter Jane never married, and seems to have lived with her father until he died (in Margate, Kent) in 1833, at which point she became the main beneficiary of his will and its sole Executrix. In 1881 Jane was an Annuitant boarder at 29 Frisden Road St Pancras with the McCarthy family. When she died in 1884, her address was given as 27 Hargrave Park Road Islington and the informant was E. McCarthy of the same address. On her death certificate her occupation was given as Annuitant, implying a degree of self-sufficiency.
I have been collecting a list of some of his works.
Both sister Jane and father Henry witnessed Alice's marriage in 1816.
Where They Lived
As can be seen above, Henry lived and worked in the Bridewell area of the City of London.
