Who They Were
Julia Sarah predeceased Walter by only a few months. Julia's death was registered by her youngest daughter Violet STALEY, of 98 Canonbie Road Forest Hill SE23; Walter's death, from lung cancer, was registered by son William Alfred, of 115 Friern Road SE22. Julia was buried at St Mary the Virgin Benfleet, and when Walter died a few months later, in Camberwell, he too was buried in the same cemetery.
98 Canonbie Road Forest Hill still stands today, and is a substantial semi detached villa. I imagine the Staley's were quite well todo.
Where They Lived
At the time of their marriage, Walter was living at 5 Coxon's Place and Julia was living at 19 Fair Street, both in the parish of St John Horsleydown.
In the 1891 Census, Walter and Julia lived at 10 Leigh Street, St Pancras, but by the time their son Alexander, was born in 1893, they had returned south of the River and were living at 175 Fort Street Bermondsey. In 1893, Walter was described as a Printer (Machine Minder).
In the 1901 census, the family was living in Glengall Road Peckham, and in 1911 in Peckham North.
