Who They Were
When they married, James gave his father's name as John BRYER, deceased (no occupation given). Jane's father was Robert FRANKLAND (surname misspelled as FRANKLIN), an engineer.
Jane died of Pleuro Pneumonia after the premature birth of little Hannah, who also died. Thereafter, I can find no mention of James William; no death registration, no re-marriage. It is probable that he did die soon after Jane, because their daughter, Patience, said on her marriage certificate that her father was unknown and that she had been brought up in an Industrial School, even though her elder brother Robert witnessed her marriage. It is possible that, after Jane's death, the whole family was thrown on the Parish and brought up in the Workhouse. This is certainly an intriguing line of research.
Where They Lived
When they married, both James and Jane gave 10 Foulmin Street as their address. When Jane registered the birth of their son Robert, Jane gave 10 Foulmin Street as their abode, although the child had been born at 51 Queen's Buildings Collinson Street Southwark. In 1890, they lived in Blackfriars Road, and they were still there in the 1891, when their address was Blackfriars Road St George the Martyr Southwark; in this census, Patience is entered as Elizabeth.
In 1893, when Jane died, they were living in Scovell Road St Saviour.
