Who They Were

I cannot find that Charles and Maria had any children of their own, but Mary Ann Harrison was variously known as Ottaway or Harrison; she married Charles WENT as Ottaway, even though her mother had not, at that point, married Charles Ottaway. It is not possible for Charles to have been Mary Ann's biological father as he was only 9 years old at the time she was born, but it seems clear her mother had had a long-standing liaison with him (see below).

Where They Lived

In 1841, Maria was living with parents James and Elizabeth in Cold Harbour Thorpe SRY.
In 1861, the family was living in Rosemary Lane Thorpe, with the addition of granddaughter Mary Ann, and two other grandchildren.
In 1871, Charles was living with his widowed father, and Maria was listed as a visitor. Neither were married. Maria's daughter Mary Ann was living with her grandmother Elizabeth.
In 1881 Maria lived at Trumps Green Egham (Charles had died there 2 years earlier); daughter Mary Ann was living on her own (although next door to future mother-in-law Eliza Smithers) with children Louisa and Frederick, in Burrow Hill, Chobham.
