Who They Were

Lucy May's birth was registered as Ottaway, but when she married she gave her name as Alford. Several of the ALford sons served during the First World War. Arthur William was in the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment from 1914; Henry Edward was in the Royal Field Artillery; Lewis George enlisted in the Royal Garrison Artillery in 1915.

Where They Lived

In 1881, Hannah was a Laundry maid in Lambeth; in 1891, the family were living at Cross Stone Hill Ottershaw. In 1901, they were living at 4 Stone Hill Ottershaw, and in 1911 at Conley Farm Chertsey. I have been unable to find Hannah in the 1939 National Register.
