Additional Information

Robert was the only one of his siblings not born in Bishops Sutton. In 1891, he was living with his widowed mother in Bighton; in 1901, he was living in St Bartholomew Hyde Winchester. He emigrated to Australia, along with Mabel, Florence and William (plus Florence's infant son, Norman H Rampton), arriving on the ship Orama on 19 Dec 1924 at Adelaide.

Robert served as a Private in the Australian Army, having enlisted 30 Sep 1939. He was discharged on 17 Sep 1944. His wife's name, and his place of birth, are noted on his service record, and his place of residence was Woodville South Australia. When he died in 1950, he was given a military memorial stone, and there is a photo of the memorial on FindaGrave. The stone gives his service number (S212310), rank of Craftsman, and corps was the Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Son William Robert is buried in the same cemetery; in the immigration documents, William is described as a Carpenter's Mate.
