Additional Information
I suspect that Thomas was a Blacksmith but do not have any proof of this at the present time, nor do I have concrete proof that he is the son of Thomas and Joan (nee RUSSEL) (see parental Family Chart for my reasoning).
There is an interesting local history called Herriard & Lasham by Anne Pitcher, which goes into some detail of the Kersley family:
As far as records of Herriard go, there is an emptiness before 1660 because they were not kept in any official source, but in that year the Kersleys were living in nearby Winslade. They moved into Herriard around the 1730s and on 21st September 1731, Richard Kersley married Elizabeth Staples. They had seven children. It was George Kersley born 20th May 1746 who owned Hale Farm, although there is no evidence that he bought it but probably inherited it...
It would seem, therefore, that Thomas had married into a reasonably well-to-do local family.
