Additional Information
On 19 April 1912, Walter George arrived in Portland Maine USA, on his way to Canada, on the SS Ansonia. He married Alice two years later, and on 31 Jan 1917 enlisted in the Canadian Army in order to fight in World War 1. At the time, he gave his address as 18 Francis Street Lindsay Ontario. The enlistment papers inform us that hs religion was CofE, and that he had tattoos: a Spanish dancing girl on his right forearm, and a butterfly and flower on his left forearm.
On 1 July 1930, he entered USA, alone, in order to find work presumably in his trade as an electrician; he had $15 in his pocket. The US entry papers contain a wealth of detail: Walter was 5ft 9in, light complexion, brown hair, blue eyes. His wife's name is given as Alice E Rampton and her address as 15 Ottawa Street East Windsor Ontario; his place of birth is also given, Hubits Island of Guernsey. It also gives details of his original entry, in 1912; apparently, Walter had made occasional trips to Detroit over the intervening years.
