Sherborne St John Censuses
Sherborne at the time of the 1841 Census
The 1841 census took place on Sunday 6th June, and is the earliest census giving names which has survived; earlier censuses recorded names but after the statistical information was derived from them the originals were destroyed. It is important to note that, whilst the ages of children are given as reported, the ages of adults was rounded to the nearest 5 years.
