Additional Information

Richard and Ann baptised their second child, Maria, on 10 Dec 1754, and on the very same day, another Richard and Ann baptised their daughter Meriah in Monk Sherborne. It does seem very unlikely that the Stratfield couple should travel to Monk Sherborne to have their baby baptised twice, unless they had ties with Monk Sherborne. I have not discovered Richard of Stratfield's origins, only surmised that he was born around 1720. Could he be the eldest son of Richard of Monk Sherborne, returning to the family church for the baptism of this second child? Richard of Sherborne's wife's name was Hannah, and it is possible that the Monk Sherborne clerk named her mistakenly as Ann, but Meriah would have been born six years after their previous child, they did not have a very large family as some did, and the age difference of 24 years between the first and the last, given only five children in between is rather large. I am happier with the explanation that their eldest son returned for the baptism, as it explains son Richard's disappearance from Monk Sherborne, and the appearance of a Richard in Stratfield Mortimer, in the same timeframe.

Ann died sometime before 1774 and Richard appears to have remarried shortly before his death. He married the widow Elizabeth FAULKNER some time in 1774 at Stratfield Mortimer.
