Additional Information
At long last I have discovered a likely candidate for this Richard, as the son of Richard and Ann of Stratfield Mortimer.
On 9 Jun 1772, a Richard Rampton married Hannah HOLIDAY at Silchester. Since it was common for people to marry around the time of their majority, it would be reasonable to assume that Richard was born circa 1750, and if that is the case, and he was born in Silchester, then it is reasonable to assume that he was the son of Richard and Ann. There are a lot of ifs in this logic - he could have been born earlier, to Edward and Ann; or later, to Edward and Joan; or have moved to Silchester quite coincidentally at about the right time. There are no clues in the naming of his children to suggest he is the son of either an Edward or an Ann or a Joan, and although his second son is named Richard this son could have been named after the father rather than any possible grandfather called Richard.
Richard and Hannah had five children that I have been able to trace. I have, however, only been able to find two baptisms in Silchester; the family seemed to have been resident in Stratfield Mortimer, so other baptisms may come to light on examination of those parish records. I have deduced the information for the other three children from the detailed names and relationships given in the will of Richard and Hannah's son James.
