Additional Information
Edward Rampton (bapt. 1739) married Elizabeth LEAVY on 24 Oct 1758 at MS and they had two sons, Christopher and Anthony. Elizabeth died in 1762 and was buried on 22 Jun 1762 at MS, but I believe Edward went on to marry again, as two further women feature in the burials at Monk Sherborne, both claiming to be the wife of Edward Rampton. They were Hannah (buried 23 Jan 1765 MS) and Mary (buried 1 Oct 1800 MS). Edward and Hannah had a daughter, Patience, and Edward and Mary had a daughter, Mary.
The IGI has an entry for the marriage of Edward Rampton to Hannah CROWDER, on 5 Nov 1764 at Sherborne St John, and this is confirmed by checking in the Parish Registers. "The banns for the marriage between "Ed. Ramton and Han. Crowder were published at Monk Sherborne and Sherborne St John Hants on three Sundays on and before Sunday Nov 4th 1764. Edward Rampton of the Parish of Monk Sherborne in Hants, Widower, and Hannah Crowder of the Parish of Sherborne St John Spinster were married in the Church by Banns this fifth day of November in the year 1764 by me Saml. Loggon, Curate." Edward signed but Hannah made her mark. The witnesses were Jonathan Gardner and John White.
There exists a Marriage Licence Allegation between Edward Rampton and Mary BYE (of the parish of Wootton St Lawrence) on the 23 May 1767, groom's age being given as 28 (correct, given "our" Edward was baptised in 1739), a widower, and bride's age as 40, a widow. The groom's occupation is "Sawyer". On checking the Wootton St Lawrence Parish Registers, I found the marriage took place in Wootton St Lawrence on 2 Jun 1767, by Licence, and the entry definitely says that Edward is "of the parish of Monk Sherborne". Both bride and groom signed the register, and the witnesses were John Pierce and John Adams.
