Children of Mary Ann's Marriages
Additional Information
Charles CUMMINS was first married to Mary CUMMINS (born circa 1835, married m. 15 Oct 1854 at Crux Easton [IGI]). Their children were:
Sarah Ann CUMMINS born circa 1855 died 1855 Francis CUMMINS born circa 1857 Anne CUMMINS born circa 1860 Sarah CUMMINS born circa 1865 Emily CUMMINS born circa 1867
This was another really difficult family to analyse; it was not immediately apparent that Mary had been married before Mr Cummins, but there was a stray Charles PEARCE living with his grandfather William in 1871, and it niggled at me. Having identified Mary, widowed, living with son Charles in Newbury in 1861 (where was daughter Eliza?), I was able to establish both her first and second marriages. The only information I had when investigating the second family was that, in 1891, Mary's brother John is recorded as living with her in Crux Easton. The names and dates of Mary Cummins' children come from familysearch and have not been checked other than to establish that Emily was indeed her child, and that subsequent CUMMINS children were born to Mary Rampton. I have been unable to identify the date of Mary CUMMINS' death nor the date of the marriage to Mary Rampton. The details of Mary Rampton's children are taken from the 1881 census, FreeBMD and familysearch.
In 1881, Mary and Charles Cummins were still to be found in Crux Easton; in 1891, as mentioned above, her brother John Rampton lived with the couple. In 1901, however, Mary can be found, widowed, living in Staplefield SSX with George and Mary Ann HAYLOCK, who appear to be no relation. in 1911, she was still in Staplefield, living with daughter Eliza Jupp and her husband and daughter Susan Kate. By this time, Mary Ann was 80 years old; she was 84 when she died in 1915.
