Early RAMPTONs in Leicestershire
Introduction
All of the records I have found in Leicestershire relate to RAMPION or RAMPIAN or RAMPEON spellings. I am not sure these are true variants of the RAMPTON name, but I have included them for completeness. I have identified RAMPTON events in the following Leicestershire parishes. These parishes are all clustered to the south of Leicester. See the
distribution map of early Ramptons.
Countesthorpe is the scene of one Rampton marriage and one burial, both relating to the family of Jarrett RAMPION who subsequently lived and raised a family in Husband's Bosworth. You can the family charts for this family under Husband's Bosworth.
I have identified one family in Hallaton, that of
Richard RAMPIAN; I am wondering if he was related to either John or William (or both) of Leicester, as they are close enough in age to be brothers.
I have identified two families in Leicester itself, those of
John RAMPIAN,
William RAMPIAN. Could William and John have been brothers?
There is only one Rampton event in Lubenham in the 16th and 17th centuries, the marriage between Johem RAMPEON and Katherine PEARCE on 11 Nov 1598. This is the only example of this spelling of RAMPTON, and it may not be an accurate rendition. Johem also is a complete outlier, and could me a mis-transcription. Lubenham is close to Market Harborough, so Johem may be related to that family, but the events are nearly a century apart, so it is unlikely.
There is only one Rampton event in Market Harborough in the 16th and 17th centuries, the burial of John RAMPION on 21 Jun 1683. No indication of parent or spouse name is given.
