Their Children

Who They Were

This couple have been rather elusive. I have been unable to find out anything about Margaret, other than the indistinctly written data in the 1939 National Register. Her birth year could be anything from 1896-99, but I have been unable to verify her birth via the GRO. I suspect that Clubb might have been a previous married name, but again I cannot find a record. The Lees is only given in one souce that I have seen, an electoral roll for 1934. Both she and Henry were in service in 1939, at Herstmonceux Sussex. I'm not sure when he moved to Kettering, but his nephew John Edward William Ottaway who registered his death also lived there so perhaps he moved to be near his family.

Where They Lived

In 1911 Henry was a servant at Queen Ann's Mead Kings Road Windsor. In 1925 he was living with his parents at 7 King's Road Windsor. In 1934, Henry and Margaret were living at 12 Acacia Avenue Uxbridge [electoral rolls]. In 1939, they were in service as Butler and Cook at Herstmonceaux SSX; the writing in the register is very poor and the address seems to have been written phonetically, but I believe this may be Herstmonceux Castle, given the names and occupations of other residents. Between at least 1945 and 1949, they lived at 90 Peascod Street Windsor; and in 1960, the couple were living at 60 Stuart Way Clewer Windsor, with Henry's sister Margaret and her husband George TEEDER.
At the time of his death, in 1994, Henry's address was given as Thornton House Churchill Way Kettering, a carehome for the elderly.
