In 1851, Richard was still living, an unmarried labourer aged 44 years, with his widowed mother Frances in Bishops Sutton, and his mother was described as a farmer of 5 acres. In 1857, Frances died, and in 1859 Richard finally married, giving his occupation as Farmer and his place of residence as Bishops Sutton. In 1861, he and Emilia were living in Bishop's Sutton, and now Richard was the farmer of 5 acres. Their first child died in infancy, but Julia Rebecca can be found in censuses up to 1901 (she was first a governess in Micheldever, and then a schoolmistress in Bromley Kent). In 1881, Emilia remarried.
