Additional Information
James's baptism is not recorded in the Silchester registers. His year of birth is deduced from the age given at the time he was buried there, on 27 Dec 1850 (age 70). He became a carpenter, and a reasonably successful one according to his will. He married Mary BURRETT on 17 Apr 1806 at Silchester. Both bride and groom were described as being of Silchester, but the 1851 census entry for Mary suggests she was actually born in Finchampstead Berkshire, and two of the bequests in James's will, to his brother-in-law William Burrett of Yateley and sister-in-law Elizabeth Burrett of Finchampstead, bear this out. Mary also was born circa 1780 and was buried, aged 73, on 2 Dec 1853 at Silchester. They had only one child, Mary, baptised 19 Apr 1807 at Silchester, and Mary did not marry, dying aged 51 in 1858; she was buried in Silchester on 2 Aug 1858. At the time of the 1851 Census, Mary and her daughter were keeping a Grocer's shop at number 46 Ramptons Lane Silchester, assisted by Mary's niece Ann Robins.
