In the 1841 Census, Richard, aged 50, a Carpenter like his brother James, was living with his family in Mortimer West End. The family consisted of wife Frances, also 50, and daughters Mary (15), Maria (12), and Sarah (8). All were said to have been born in the county of Hampshire.
In 1831 he was named in the will of his brother James although the will was not proved until 1850.
Frances died on 18 Dec 1842 of Disease of the Heart, aged 52, the place of residence being given as Mortimer West End. In 1851, Richard was living in Stratfield Mortimer, aged 60, and claiming to have been born in Mortimer. He had living with him daughters Ann (28), Sarah (18), and granddaughter Frances (5), all born in Mortimer. Frances was the illegitimate daughter of Ann and had been born on 27 Jan 1846 at Mortimer in Berkshire.
