Additional Information
After George RAMPTON, her first husband, died, Grace lived for many years in Tadley, bearing an illegitimate daughter Esther in 1840, before she married James KNIGHT. Grace's previous family life can be seen under the RAMPTON Family Chart.
In 1851, the whole family (above), with the exception of James, was living in Nately Scures; Esther was named KNIGHT and described as daughter of the head of the household.
In 1861 Grace and James were found living in Nately Scures, with Esther, then aged 20, and Jonah KNIGHT aged 14, James's son from a previous marriage.
In 1871, Grace was living as housekeeper to George Frederick Simmonds in Kingston Lisle BRK, having been widowed for a second time.
The inclusion of son James KNIGHT aka RAMPTON here may indeed be spurious. In 1871, Austin RAMPTON was living in Farnham with his own family and with him was brother James RAMPTON, born 1843 in Odiham. This James had not appeared in previous censuses, either as RAMPTON or KNIGHT. Was he in fact Jesse KNIGHT, born 1844? Or was he elsewhere in 1851 and 1861 when he should have been at home with James and Grace?
