Additional Information
In 1851 census, there is a Thomas of the right age, born "in Kingsclere" living in Chapel Street Thatcham, near Newbury. He gave his occupation as a Slaughterman, and is the most likely candidate to be the son of Thomas the Butcher! Thomas son of Thomas married in 1853 to Eliza Ann, daughter of John CLARKE; Eliza obviously had an illegitimate son, Regenold (or Reginald), as the three of them were living in Bath at the time of the 1861 census.
I have been unable to locate the family in 1871 yet, but in 1881 Thomas can be found with a new wife, Elizabeth, and a family of two both born in Bath. There is no sign of Regenold Clarke. Elizabeth's maiden name was BONYTHON, a name I have not come across before. She was the daughter of Samuel BONYTHON. Living with them in Elms House Wells Road in 1881 was a married visitor, Jane CAMPION of Bath.
In 1891, Thomas and family were back in Hampshire, living at Priory School Ramsdell (just south of Tadley). He was still a butcher, and a further son had been born.
In 1901, Jane CAMPION crops up again, living with Thomas in Basingstoke, with no Elizabeth nor children in sight. She is described as a visitor. Elizabeth, at the time of the 1901 census, was living in Bath, and was described as a Housekeeper; close by was Annie, working as a Bookkeeper.
In 1911, Thomas and Elizabeth were back together again, living in Basingstoke with son Thomas.
