Additional Information
Martin McGrath seems to be rather elusive; he and Ellen married after the 1881 census, and he died before the 1891 census so his place of birth must remain a mystery for now. Similarly, I can't find a registered death for him between 1881 and 1891, so am not sure when or how he died, nor what his trade was. William Isaac Coleman is much easier to pinpoint. A musician and then a general labourer, he and Ellen married just before the 1891 census and immediately farmed Martin Henry and Sidney Francis out to live with their aunts (Florence and Emily, respectively).
In 1901, Alice and William were living in West Cowes, Isle of Wight, with Sidney and their children. Sadly, William died the following year and the family scattered. Hilda and Edith were still in Cowes in 1911, Hilda being a telephone operator; William, all of 16 years old, was serving in the 4th Batallion King's Royal Rifle Corps 1st Royal Dragoons, 1st King's Own Lancaster Regiment, stationed in Chakrata Utta Pradesh India. I cannot locate either Martin or Sidney McGrath in the 1911 census, and Reginald is likewise absent. Alice was living in the East Cowes house of William Henry WEST, a retired lightship skipper, acting as a sick nurse.
