Additional Information

In 1851, Ann was living with her two children with her parents in Micheldever, and Charles was living in St Mary Bourne together with plough boy George Brown. Given that James and Mary Ann were born in St Mary Bourne it is most probable that Ann was just on a visit to her parents rather than anything more long term. In 1861 the family was all living together in Knights Enham, and Charles had changed his occupation from Ag Lab to Railway Worker. By 1871, Charles had become a Platelayer, and the family were living in Railway Cottages, Knights Enham. Charles, Ann and at least three of their children emigrated to New Zealand in the mid-1870s, as evidenced by the marriages and burials of a number of them. They seem to have settled in New Plymouth, and there are a number of Rampton memorials in the Te Henui Cemetery; see the list at FindaGrave.
