Who They Were

Most of the information I have, apart from the baptism dates, comes from William's Will. In it he mentions various businesses (unspecified), the ownership of The King's Arms Inn in Dorchester, the interest in the copyhold Manor of fforthington, as well as all my houses lands tenements and hereditaments lying in Weymouth and Melcombe Regis. He names his son William as executor and principal trustee, and his dear wife [unnamed in the will but named Sarah in probate] as executrix. Edmund is directed to carry on the various unnamed businesses for four years in order to maintain son Thomas at University. Son John Bampfield BRYER is granted the use of the Manor of fforthington after William's wife's death, and the property is passed to Edmund after John's death. None of the daughters is mentioned in the will, and none of the other children, other than as my four youngest children.

From the Cambridge Alumni List, it would appear that Thomas graduated from St John College Cambridge in 1771 and became a clergyman [see his family chart for more information].

The Manor of fforthington [or Fordington] was left to William's wife, Sarah, for her to enjoy her widowhood, and thereafter passed to son John Bampfield Bryer.

Where They Lived

Fordington, Melcombe Regis and Dorchester seem to be the main residences of this Bryer family.
