Additional Information
In 1850, at the time of their marriage, Henry and Catharine gave 13 West Street Neckinger Bermondsey as their address, but by the time of the 1851 census they had moved to Botley, HAM. I have been unable to trace them further in English records, because in 1854 Henry and Catherine set sail on the John M. Wood from Liverpool in search of a new life in America. They arrived in New Orleans on May 2, 1854, but Catherine died 2 Aug, 1854.
Excerpts from Henry's diary are available from the Mormon Immigration Index; an account of Alice MacDuff's adventures were kindly supplied by Jean Roasio.
In the 1880 US Census, the two families of Frances Rampton and Ada Rampton are shown separately, but in close proximity, but Henry is nowhere to be seen. Was he in prison at the time (I have been told that he served 6months in prison for polygamy)? Son Henry James was married by 1880 and living close by, and son William was also married and living in Salt Lake City.
All dates and places, with the exception of the marriage to Catherine HARTFIELD, are taken from published sources and the American IGI, and have not been checked against original documentary evidence. Much of the material in the American IGI has not been identified from original records but from family researchers and must remain highly suspect.
Many more later generations of this family can be seen on the LDS Familysearch website.
