Ellen Gertrude lived her whole life in the confines of the family, first remaining with her parents and moving to Newbury with them, then caring for her widowed mother and keeping house for her younger brother, Henry Herbert, who carried on the family business of Watchmaking and dealing in jewellery. She survived her mother by only two years.
