Additional Information
John's baptism was wrongly recorded with the name James in the Tadley Parish Registers.
In the 1841 Census, the family, minus Henry and David who had not yet been born, were living at Tadley Common. The 1851 Census records John and Mary living in Inhurst Road, with children George, Thomas, James and Mary Ann (known now and for the rest of her life as Ann). James and Ann were still living with John and Mary in 1861, at Heath End Tadley; John was described as a Coppice Dealer.
For some reason, possibly disputes, John's will was not proved until 1884, seven years after his death. Mary was named beneficiary.
James and Ann continued to live at home, with their widowed mother in 1881, and subsequently together with Ann as James's housekeeper. When James died, in 1918, his sister erected this memorial stone to him in St Peter's Churchyard:
In Loving Memory of my Dear Brother James RAMPTON
who fell asleep 10 February 1918 aged 88 years.
His Life was Labour His End is Rest.
