Their Children
Who They Were
I have written about the Winterbottom connection to the Ottaways more fully here.
Their first son, John, was registered as John Walter at birth, named Walter no doubt because of Walter Garrad John Lemuel's stepfather. His death, however, was registered as John William; I believe this discrepancy may have arisen because John Walter's death was not registered by his family. From his death certificate, I gather that he lived alone at 167 Bellhagg Road Sheffield, he suffered an aneurysm there, and that his body was not found for some days; there was no inquest although there was a post mortem. No relatives are named on the certificate, and the informant was one Michael Turner who "caused the body to be buried". John Walter had been a Post Room Supervisor.
Son Douglas married and had four children that I have traced, but died at the young age of 36.
Where They Lived
1939 - John and Ellen were living at 167 Bellhagg Road Sheffield; son John was living with them, and presumably Douglas also, although his listing in 1939 National Register has been closed.
1957 - at the time of Ellen's death, their address was given as 60 Orchard Road Sheffield.
1962 - John and his second wife were living at Foldrings Cottage Hollowgate Wharncliffe Side near Oughtibridge Yorkshire; the were at the same address when John died the following year.
